![]() ![]() ”African Culture”, 48”x24”, mixed media, 1999 “From the Outside Looking In” series – I grew up in the former Soviet Union, where they forbade religion but taught that people of all races and nationailities are equal. When I came to America, I was shocked that people who are religious and pray to God would treat others of different races and nationalities badly. I couldn’t figure out why this was, so I decided to create a series of mixed-media collages examining this topic. I interviewed over 200 people of different races and recorded their quotes on the collages. I feel that all people are equal in the eyes of God. |
